When I Feel Flat or Unmotivated, This Is How I Feed My Fire

When I Feel Flat or Unmotivated, This Is How I Feed My Fire

There are days when I wake up and just feel... meh.

Like my energy is flickering instead of roaring.

That feeling of flatness that makes my to-dos seem overwhelming and makes me wonder if any of it is actually moving me forward with my goals.

Maybe you know that feeling too.

As empaths, we tend to carry so much… our own feelings, other people’s moods, the expectations we’re trying to meet, the goals we want to achieve.

And sometimes life feels... dull. Heavy. Routine.

Honestly, ‘meh’ describes it all so well.

Even when nothing’s wrong, it can feel like our spark has dimmed.

And when that happens, I’ve learned that I don’t need to push harder or hustle more.

What I really need is to come back to myself, back to my light, back to my personal power.

That’s when I turn to my Personal Power Meditation Art Experience — the one inspired by the Solar Plexus Chakra and the radiant energy of the Sunflower.

Why the Sunflower means so much to me

Sunflowers have been my favourite flower for as long as I can remember. There’s something about them that feels so unapologetically joyful like they’re smiling at the sun.

One of my happiest memories is driving through Spain with my family when we were on holiday once, looking out the window of the tour bus and seeing endless fields of sunflowers, all turning their bright faces toward the light.

That memory is nice to come back to.
It reminds me that even when life feels heavy, there’s still light to turn toward.

And that’s what the Solar Plexus Chakra is all about… reconnecting with your own inner sun, even on the gloomy days.

When I feel small, this is what I do:

Days like these I have to remind myself to not bulldoze through it and force productivity or creativity.

I used to try to do that and sometimes it would work, but then it would leave me coming back to the same feeling of ‘meh-ness’ that I was hoping to ‘fix’.

Being on this self-love journey has taught me that when I take a moment to myself to tend to my fire, and that it’s okay for me to feel flat, that feeling of acceptance allows for the energy to flow more freely.

Here's how I invite that energy back in, using all five senses:

Sight

  • I look at my Sunflower mandala art  that is hung above my personal altar. The warm yellow is uplifting to look at and reminds me that everything will be okay.

  • I imagine myself standing tall like a sunflower, soaking in whatever light is available, even if it’s just a tiny patch of blue sky.

  • If the weather is nice, I’ll make an effort to go outside to not only soak up the sunshine, but to also surround myself with nature.

Touch

  • I place my hand on my Solar Plexus (the area just above my navel) and take slow, deep breaths, imagining that fire inside me getting brighter.

  • Sometimes I journal while holding a Citrine tumblestone or my Tiger’s Eye bracelet, reminding myself of my abundance, and the fact that it’s safe for me to shine in my own unique way.

  • Typically a warm cup of coffee or tea perks me up when I’m feeling flat, and feeling the warmth of the mug with my hands helps ground me into the present moment.

Smell

  • Aromatherapy is my go-to pick me up to help me shift my mood. Even just taking a few intentional sniffs helps flip the switch from “stuck” to “awake.” I love burning incense and smelling its smokey aroma.

  • I also love Bergamot essential oil: it’s citrusy, fresh, and instantly brightens my mood.

  • I keep a little bottle in my car for when I’m driving around feeling heavy or dull, but at home, I’ll pop it in my diffuser and let the whole room soak it up (I also have a few other uplifting blends that have Bergamot in it).

Hearing

  • I pay attention to how my body is feeling and ask myself “What do I need today?” Sometimes it’s a call for movement like dancing or stretching, and sometimes it’s slowing down and resting. Our body is always communicating with us so we need to listen to it.

  • If I feel low-confidence, I’ll give myself a personal pep talk in front of the mirror, looking at my eyes and remind myself of what I already know deep down: I am capable. I am powerful. I am enough.

  • Other times when I feel disheartened like I’m not making much progress with my work, I’ll listen to a guided meditation addressing what I’m feeling or a binaural audio for me to sit with. Sometimes it’s about giving myself space to sit in the room with whatever I’m feeling.

Taste

  • Warm foods and drinks seem to awaken the fire element in me, and I notice how a simple cup of tea can be an act of self-encouragement.

  • I love the Solar Plexus Chakra tea blend by Spiritualitea, which is a gorgeous blend of Rooibos, vanilla, goji berries, and banana pieces. It’s sweet, grounding, and strong, exactly what I need when I’m needing a bit of warmth on the inside.

  • I do enjoy a bit of chilli with my food every now and then. Not too much! Just a little hint of it to give my food a little kick that also makes me feel warm inside.

Reigniting my Personal Power

I used to think personal power meant pushing myself harder, hustling, or forcing confidence.

Especially if I were in a social situation, I sometimes feel like I have to mask my emotions just to be that energetic person that people like or expect of me.

But what I’ve learned is that real power doesn’t come from force, it comes from trust.

Trusting yourself enough to speak up, show up to keep creating, moving and dreaming… even when you feel small or scared.

This is true whether you’re an artist, a healer, a parent, a business owner, a corporate worker dreaming of something more, or just someone who knows there’s more inside you than the world always sees.

Reconnecting with that fire inside you is what allows you to express it out in the world. Whether that’s through your work, your creativity, how you talk to others or simply the way you live.

I’m currently learning to sit with my femininity more, and to stand in my feminine power in ways I hadn’t embraced before.

Why this practice of mindfulness matters

The Personal Power Meditation Art Experience isn’t about pretending everything’s fine or dismissing the non-warm vibes.

A cup of tea won’t literally solve a pressing issue that is bugging us.

But giving ourselves space to connect with ourselves opens up space for us to receive inspiration and clarity to work towards what we need to.

Being comfortable with acceptance that it’s okay to feel down and flat helps us regulate ourselves so that we don’t operate from a state of freeze or fawn.

What’s important for us to remember is that we need to prioritise feeling safe to feel what we feel.

Stay in the room.

It’s the practice of creating small, sacred moments for ourselves that remind us that:
You are capable. You are strong. You are already enough.

Confidence isn’t something you chase. It’s something you nurture moment by moment through embodiment.

This practice is how I come back to that knowing inside me, that to light myself up again, I need to feed my fire and ask myself “What does my soul need today?”

If you’re feeling stuck or small right now…

There’s nothing wrong with you if you feel flat. Maybe you’re just in a moment of recalibration or space to be, while remembering who you already are. Or maybe you just need a break.

I invite you to create a small ritual for yourself… using your senses, your body, your breath, and your intention to reconnect with your fire.

And if you’d like some support, the Personal Power Meditation Art Experience is available here.

It’s filled with some of the tools that help me find my light again — and maybe they’ll help you too.

You’re allowed to take up space.
You’re allowed to shine.
The world needs your light — just as you are.
