How I Ground Myself When I'm Feeling Flustered

How I Ground Myself When I'm Feeling Flustered

Sometimes the week gets away from me.

I’ll notice I’m sighing a lot, feeling tight in my chest, getting flustered or I forget what I walked into the room for. I get stuck in my head with all the things I have to do and sometimes feel completely demotivated to do any of them at the same time.

When I start feeling like I need to hustle, that’s usually the point when I realise I need to slow down and come back to my body.

I used to just push through, thinking rest was something I’d earn later.

"If I finish it all now, then I can relax later."

Hands up if you're similar to me.

Don't get me wrong. Sometimes it's good to just push through to get the job done so that it's out of your head.

Other times though, it might just be a sign that we need to take a pause with ourselves for a moment before carrying on with the task.

When I start noticing signs of feeling ungrounded and am able to catch myself earlier, I'll reach for my Root Chakra Meditation Art Experience.

It’s something I created not just for others, but because I needed it for myself.

It’s a reset. A way to feel more present, more steady, and more like me again.

You don’t need to know anything about chakras to use it.

Think of it like a mini ritual that helps you feel calmer, grounded, and more connected, especially if your week’s been overwhelming or you’ve been spending too much time in your head.

When I feel ungrounded, this is what I do:

I don’t follow strict steps. I just do what feels good and helps me slow down.

Typically I tell myself to take a minute to notice my breath, while feeling my feet planted firmly on the ground, especially if I'm out and about.

But when I'm at home, in my own safe little space, this is what I might do.

(And I don’t do all of these at once. I’ll feel into what my body needs most to calm down and ground.)

Here's how I usually use my kit, broken down by the senses so it’s easier to follow.

Sight

  • I look at my Red Rose Root Chakra mandala art which I have hanging on the wall in a large frame. I use it as a visual anchor. Just looking at it helps me pause and breathe.

  • Sometimes I like to imagine myself being in a beautiful field of red roses, soaking up the warm red energy of the flowers. I can almost smell them too.

  • I'll go to my front yard or back yard, and step bare feet on the grass. If the weather is nice, I'll go for a slow walk around the block and look at the trees and plants. Being out in nature is the best way to get back into your body.

Touch

  • I love holding crystals and playing with them in my hands. Red Jasper and Black Obsidian are my favourites for grounding. If I need to get something done around the house, I'll keep it in my pocket.

  • If I feel fidgety or restless, holding the crystal gives my hands something to do and brings me back to the moment.

  • Typically I like to tap my collarbone as well (a method from EFT tapping, which I'll share more in another post). It helps me bring me back to my body while focusing on my breath.

Smell

  • I love using my diffuser at home, so I'll pop a few drops of Patchouli oil (or other earthy grounding blends) to make my space feel cosy.

  • I'm big on incense, and love using Sandalwood. I will light it up at my altar, and pause to focus on being in the present moment.

  • Sometimes I just open the bottle and take a deep breath. It helps me feel relaxed right away.

Hearing

  • I'll listen to what my body needs and either lay down in bed or in my comfy couch, and give my permission to pause.

  • I might tune in to the natural sounds around my home like the magpies singing or put on some relaxing music (I've been listening to Richard Houghten a lot lately, check him out!)

  • When I know I can have 20-30 minutes to myself, I'll listen to a guided meditation. My friend Anthony has the most calming voice and I enjoy listening to his meditations

Taste

  • Always love a hot beverage to warm up my body. It's an instant body mind connection to get me back in the moment.
  • I'm a coffee drinker but in moments of ungroundedness, I'll try to swap for a tea like chai or any of the chakra blends from Spiritualitea range.
  • The Root Chakra tea blend in particular has burdock root, hibiscus flower, liquorice root, elder berries and cinnamon. It's a beautiful flavour that's not empowering and refreshing at the same time to ground you back in the moment.

Other things I like to do

  • I'm a strong believer in the power of affirmations, which is what got me into mindfulness in the first place
  • I'll use "I am" statements that I resonate with and repeat them until I feel more centred.
  • Sometimes I'll just need to shake things out, so I'll put on some music and dance it out for the whole duration of the song.

Why this helps

When life feels full-on, it’s easy to disconnect and disassociate from your body. These simple little actions helps me feel safe and steady again.

It's not about doing a long meditation or clearing your mind completely.

It’s just about tuning in to feeling what you need to bring you back into the present moment.

Even something as simple as sitting with art and taking a few deep breaths can shift how I feel.

This is what I call my Meditation Art Experience. It's a combination of simple tools — art, aromatherapy, touch, hearing, taste, and presence — designed to help you ground yourself when you’re feeling off.

If you’ve been feeling anxious or a bit scattered...

You might want to try creating your own little moment like this. You don’t need to follow my steps exactly.

I invite you to try and feel what's right for you.

Maybe it’s having a nap, dancing to music or decorating your house with flowers.

There’s no right way to do it. The point is to check in with yourself and create a pause in your day.

If you’d like to try the full Grounding Meditation Art Experience, you can explore the kit here. It comes with everything I use: the mandala art, essential oil, crystal, guided meditation and tea.

Your permission slip

You don’t need a fancy routine to feel grounded.

You just need a few quiet moments with your senses — and permission to come back to yourself.

That’s what this is for.
